Electricity, Plug and Socket in Thailand
In Thailand, the standard voltage is 220V, 50Hz. If you are from UK, Europe, Australia, Hong Kong or other countries which have standard voltage 220V - 240V, you can use your electric appliances in Thailand. Your mobile phones, tablets, laptops, or cameras will work fine with Thailand’s Electricity.
However, if you are from U.S., Japan or other counties which use 110-127V, you will need a power converter or adapter to convert Thailand’s 220V to 110V for your devices. Make sure you get the 220/110V (Step-down) adapter, not the other way around. Some appliances can run on both 110 and 220 volts, check the label on the appliance to see if they are in this category. If it states INPUT: 100-240V, 50/60 Hz', then it can be used in Thailand and all other countries in the world!
Next thing you need to prepare before coming to Thailand is the plug. Here is some basic information of how the plugs and sockets are categorized. The power plugs and sockets are most commonly type A / B / C / O.
Majority of sockets in Thailand are Type A. At hotels, coffee shops or airports, you will see Type A socket. So if your plugs are A-type, you can easily charge your devices everywhere in Thailand. If your plugs are other types (e.g. B, C, O, E, F, J), you can buy a A-type adapter or borrow ones at your hotels. Most hotels have the adapters available for their guests with no additional fee.
